Why the January New Moon is called the New Snow Moon
In 2023 the new moon that begins the lunar cycle for the February full moon, called the Full Snow Moon, will occur in late January. This is one of the few New Moon Names that won’t come as a surprise. Like other moon names inspired by nature, the February Full moon is named for the snow that frequently occurs during the month.
Each year depending on when the February Full Moon occurs, the New Snow Moon will occur in either late January to Mid-February.
Which season includes the New Snow Moon?
The New Snow Moon will be part of the Winter season each year. It won’t be a seasonal black moon because it occurs as the season’s second new moon. It comes after the New Wolf Moon and before the New Worm Moon.
