What is the August New Moon named?
Depending on when the August New Moon is and when the Full Harvest Moon is, the name will change. It may either be called the New Sturgeon Moon, New Corn Moon, New Harvest Moon, or New Blue Moon.
If the new moon occurs towards the first half of the month it will be called the New Sturgeon Moon as it starts the lunar cycle for the August Full Moon.
If the new moon occurs in the second half of the month the new moon name will change based on when the Full Harvest Moon is. The August New Moon will either be the New Corn Moon or the New Harvest Moon because it is the new moon that starts the lunar cycle for the September Full Moon.
It’s also possible the new moon will be called the New Blue Moon if it occurs in the middle of the month when August has 2 full moons. As the later moon would be called a Full Blue Moon, the new moon that month would be a new blue moon as it starts the lunar cycle.
