What is the May New Moon named?
Depending on when the May New Moon is, the name will change. It may either be called the New Flower Moon, New Strawberry Moon, or New Blue Moon.
If the new moon occurs towards the first half of the month it will be called the New Flower Moon as it starts the lunar cycle for the May Full Moon.
If the new moon occurs in the second half of the month the new moon will be called the New Strawberry Moon because it is the new moon that starts the lunar cycle for the June Full Moon.
It’s also possible the new moon will be called the New Blue Moon if it occurs in the middle of the month when May has 2 full moons. As the later moon would be called a Full Blue Moon, the new moon that month would be a new blue moon as it starts the lunar cycle.
