What is the September New Moon named?
The September 2022 New Moon will be called the New Hunter’s Moon because it is the start of the Full Hunter’s Moon lunar cycle.
Depending on when the September New Moon is and when the Full Harvest Moon is, the name will change. It may either be called the New Hunter’s Moon or New Harvest Moon.
If the new moon occurs during the last few days of September, it will be called the New Hunter’s Moon because it will be the start of the October Full Moon lunar cycle. When this happens the October Full Moon will be further away from the Autumn Equinox, making the September Full Moon the Full Harvest Moon.
And even in the case where the October Full Moon is closer to the Autumn Equinox than the September Full Moon, the September New Moon will still be the New Harvest Moon. When this happens the September Full Moon will be called the Full Corn Moon, and its new moon will likely be in August.
While it’s possible for a blue moon to occur in September, the scheduling is tight given the month is 30 days long and the lunar cycle is almost that same length. This means that a limited number of timezones may see the blue moon while others will have a blue moon in either August or October.
Which season includes the September New Moon?
In 2022, the September New Moon will be the first new moon of the Fall 2022 season because it will occur a few days after the Autumn Equinox.
In other years, the September New moon could occur in either the summer or autumn season. When the new moon is called the New Harvest Moon, it will be the last new moon of the summer season. When the new moon is called the New Hunter’s Moon, it is also the first new moon of the autumn season.
The New Moon in September will not be a seasonal black moon because there are not enough days before the autumn equinox for another new moon to occur. It is possible for this new moon to be the fourth new moon in the summer season, which creates a seasonal black moon.
